What Does the Living God Say About Domestic Violence?

Sharon Stay Australia Divorce Domestic Violence Faith Human Rights Law Legitimate Marriage Sexual Assault Truth Woman's Health Worship

What does the Living God say about domestic violence? It is never okay!

Domestic violence occurs when the husband attempts to divorce his faithful wife. A wife who was a virgin at their marriage, can not be divorced if she has not been sexually immoral. Any husband who attempts to do so, slanders his wife and is violent towards his wife and there are severe penalties in the law. Respect marriage vows. Never destroy another person's marriage. Respect virginity. Respect marriage.

The God who lives seeks God-honouring marriages and God-honouring offspring from those marriages. He desires the wife to be respected and her husband to be respected.

It is written,

"It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking God-honouring off spring. So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man covering his wife with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty.

So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith. Malachi 2:13-16

The Living God, who is loving and kind and is the Unseen Creator of all that is seen and unseen, loves justice and His justice is swift. He commands a husband to clothe his wife with love and kindness and faith and protect her and their children.

A wife is not to be divorced against her will. The only reason Jesus Christ said a husband can divorce his wife, is if she has been unfaithful to their marriage bed and any accusation of unfaithfulness must be proven in the courts on the testimony of two witnesses. This prevents deceitful slander and violence towards the wife and protects her from abuse and violence.

It is written,

Then some Pharisees came and tested Him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?”

Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses order a man to give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”

Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hardness of heart; but it was not this way from the beginning. Now I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman, commits adultery.” Matthew 19: 3-9.

A wife has the right to keep her marriage vows of fidelity to her husband and not be put under duress or coerced to break them. A man who rapes a betrothed/married woman in a rural area, receives the death penalty if convicted in a court of law on the testimony of two witnesses.

A wife has the right to remain in her husband's home, even if her husband's heart is hard and faithless. The Egyptian Pharaoh had a hard heart and it did not go well with him, as did Abigail's husband. Exodus 9:35, Exodus 14:8, 1 Samuel 25.

A wife has the right to be a woman of her word, even if it hurts and to to keep her marriage vows, even if her husband is faithless and his heart is hard.

She has the right to retain her right to remarry, if she is widowed, since a divorced woman can not remarry.

She has the right to have her good character and reputation protected and not slandered or lied about by her husband or any other person. A divorce is slanderous to her good character if a wife has not been unfaithful to her husband.

She has the right to have faith in the Living God that what appears to be impossible without the Living God, is completely and utterly possible with the Living God. She has the right to do what is possible with the Living God.

She has the right to not live alone and to not be abandoned by her husband and to live in safety and loving kindness and be protected by a loving husband.

She has the right to obey the Living God and the right to life and the right to give glory to the Living God and the right to defend the truth and get rid of all rivals and the right to not sin in her anger.
